Cake knives and spatula serving utensils are available at specialty stores, however you can look at pictures in wedding books, and improvise with cutlery that you already have. Or you can then find the right utensils, and buy some ribbon to tie around the knife and serving tools!
Then, you will need to bring these utensils to the caterers' or to the hall! Find out where you need to bring them, and when!

The Wedding Cake!
My wedding cake needed special candles!
The Knife! And Spatula!

The Hall!
For my wedding, I needed to go to the hall, (on the day of the wedding), with some of my bridesmaids, and friends to make certain everything was set up for the evening.
After the ceramony, and after the picture taking in the church and park; we then went to the hall to set things up!
Our caterers were responsible for table cloths, and table settings however, I was *responsible for putting the individual wedding gifts onto each place setting!
At another time, I will show you what I supplied for gifts to the guests at my wedding!
I also had personalized stamped match packs to provide for my guests!
This was in 1993 when smoking was more popular and more acceptable!
The Recommendation!
For every part of your wedding, from the dress to the flowers to the cake, a recommendation from a friend is the best thing!
My wedding plans went on for over one year! In that time we found out that one of our friend's mother was a wedding cake baker and she made them in her home!
This woman had several books of pictures of cakes to choose from. She steered me to one specific book that contained cakes that she would recommend.
She knew her talent, and her capabilities, so choosing from her recommended cake selections was a good thing!
She did a wonderful job!
Flowers Or Candles! And Figures For The Top!
Some cakes require fresh flowers or candles or other objects!And of course, the bride and groom figures for the top of the cake!
My wedding cake was multi-tiered and required a special size candle!
They were hard to find, and I went to many stores before I could find them!
But I did locate them, it required about 15 candles and the cake came out wonderfully!
You will need to provide these objects to your cake maker! They also, will help you to know, that the cake will be finished with all parts together, and then transported to the wedding reception hall!
Transporting the Cake!
How the cake gets to the reception and when it gets there is another detail to be aware of!The woman who baked my cake, told me how that would happen. She and her husband would hand deliver the cake, using their own van.
The hall we used was on a second floor and we arranged with the managers of the hall, to communicate with the cake bakers, for use of the service elevator.
The couple chose to walk the cake up the two flights of stairs; this was their own chosen method. They did a two-man carry!
This was their call, and the cake arrived, at the scheduled and appointed time at the reception hall!
Take Out Containers
I needed to speak with, and pre-arrange with our caterers, to make certain they were prepared, to both cut the cake, and then place pieces of cake in to the take out boxes for the guests to take home with them! Find out who is responsible for providing the boxes! Are they included in the overall catering cost?Cutting The Cake!
Experienced caterer's will communicate with the band, or D.J. so that the cutting of the cake goes off well.You can speak with your caterer to find out if they will help you with this. Normally, they will have experience in this and will tell you how this is to play out!
At that time, the band (D.J.) will announce that it is time for the Bride and Groom to cut the cake!
All we had to do was show up at the cake table!
