Are Fruits Allowed on the Keto Diet?

The Keto diet plan can be useful for weight loss, but it is used as well for treating metabolic syndrome disorders, a.k.a. sickness as a result of insulin resistance. ~`Insulin Resistance Page

My husband and I had a need for using this diet, for helping us to regain good health! There is definitely a learning curve and an adjustment period when switching over to a Keto menu! ~`See Erectile Dysfunction

When it comes to using a smart Keto plan of eating, I look to the experts! Two of my go-to people are, Dr. Eric Berg and Mr. Thomas DeLauer! (See the video below!)

Are Fruits Allowed On Keto?

Most fruits are high-sugar foods so, as a rule they are not used on a good Keto food plan. And some fruits are disguised as vegetables!

You can listen to this page!
Please note! The audio file will be posted here shortly!

Avacados And Tomatos Are Fruits!

Avocados are considered part of the fruit-family and although they do not contain sugar, they do in fact have carbohydrates! And should be used with that in mind.

Tomatos are also in the family of fruits, and they are a good choice of food when you are choosing low-sugar and low carbohydrate foods! Tomatos also have a good, healthy amount of fiber!

Lemons And Limes And Coconuts

Other fruits that are included in a good Keto diet plan are lemons, limes and coconuts! When using lemons and limes, it might be helpful to learn what sugars are allowed if any! Hint: brown coconut flake sugar is allowed; honey is not!

Coconuts themselves, the meat of them, are allowed and useful; however coconut water is a refined product and does have sugarary-carbs.

Pomegranate Seeds ~ Star Fruit And Berries

Pomegranate seeds are a good choice, but not Pomegranate juice, as that is a concentrated carbohydrate!

Star fruit is lower on the glycemic index so it would be considered a good fruit to use!

The List!

The berry-family of fruit is commonly used on the Keto Plan! They are best used, in the order below!

  1. #1 Raspberries
  2. #2 Blackberries
  3. #3 Strawberrries
  4. #4 Blueberries

Raspberries are tops on that list, with blackberries coming in second, strawberries third, and fourth are blueberries!

What About Cherries?

Cherries, although not as much as some fruit, do have a lot of sugar; tart cherries would be lower in sugar.

Cantelope Or Watermelon?

Yes on cantelope, No on watermelon!

Cantelope is better than watermelon when it comes to melons! But it is good to use cantelope with caution as it can easily be overdone!

When Stopping Keto Do You Go Back To Fruit?

As it concerns the keto diet, once you hit your goal-weight, or you reach your health goal, you still may need to exercise caution with using fruit.

If your problem with insulin resistance is gone, or not an issue and, if you do not have a history of abusing sugar and your health is good, you may be able to include more fruit into your diet when you stop the Keto plan.

At this time it would be good to look honestly to find out if you have a history of using fruit in order to get your sugar-fix!

People who have a history of over-eating sugar or sugary foods, will do well to continue using fruit wisely; as well as cautiously using the carbohydrates that convert easily to sugar!
